After Romania, Bulgaria is the next country to find itself embroiled in a scandal about children's homes. Hundreds of children with disabilities were allegedly tortured in state-run institutions, and police are investigating over 200 deaths.Hundreds of children with disabilities reportedly died from lack of care, malnutrition or accidents such as drowning or freezing. Many of these deaths were never reported to police or authorities. Bulgaria is home to over 26 social care homes for disabled children, and conditions in all of them have been found to be inhumane.
